Profile
Born in Osaka, he graduated from Tama Art University in 1959 and started working for Light publicity where he handled advertising for Toyo Rayon and Canon Camera among others. He started freelancing in 1968 and became art editor for "Hanashi no Tokushu" in 1965. He did the covers from "Shukan Sankei" between 1968-73 and for "Shukan Bunshun" from 1977. He won the Bunshun Comics Award, the Kodansha Publishing Cultural Book Design Award and the Japan Non-Fiction Award. He directed "Mahjong Meanderings" in 1984 and "Ruby―The Elusive Thief" in 1988.

In 1959 joined Light Publicity after graduating from Tama Art University, and began working independently from 1968. Participated in "Hanashi no Tokushu" magazine as art director. From 1968, in as series that ran for more than 4 years, began drawing caricature covers for "Sakei Weekly." From 1977 to present, of "Weekly Bunshun." Major awards include1974, Kodansha Publication Culture Award (book design), 1997, Mainichi Design Prize. Authored more than 100 published works. Those concerned with design and illustration include, "Design Streetmap," "People," "Poster Land," "Makoto Wada Department Store," "Book Designed by Makoto Wada," "Bookbinding Story," "Caricature Story," and "Time Travel." Also directs movies.
