日本の戦後50年間のイラストレーションの流れを、ポスターを中心に、広告、書物、レコード・ジャケット等150点の展示を通して紹介。展示作品は、より広い視野からイラストレーションをとらえるために、評論家、アートディレクター、ジャーナリスト等これまでにイラストレーションに深く関わってきた17名の方より推薦をいただき選定された。

The trends in 50 years of post-war Japanese illustrations were shown with 150 exhibits consisting of mainly posters bus also ads, books, and record jackets.

広島市生まれ。1923年プラトン社に入社、26年プラトン社の東京移転に伴い状況（~28年）。1929年資生堂に入社（~32年）。1934年日本工房に参加。1936年資生堂に復職（~43年）。1940年報道技術研究会の結成に参加。1947年多摩造形芸術専門学校（現・多摩美術大学）図案科教授（~67年）。1948年資生堂宣伝文化部嘱託。1951年日本宣伝美術会（日宣美）創設に参加、初代委員長となる。1952年東京アド・アートディレクターズクラブの創設に参加。1953年「Yamana Ayao個展」開催、『Yamana-Ayao装画集』刊。1955年、第1回毎日産業デザイン賞功労者賞受賞。1959年資生堂顧問に就任。1965年日本デザイナー学院の初代学院長（~72年）。1966年資生堂宣伝部政策室長（~69年）。

Born in Hiroshima. From 1923 to 1928 he was employed by Platon Publishing House. He joined Shiseido in 1929, remaining there until 1932. In 1934 he took part in the Nihon Kobo. He rejoined Shiseido from 1936 until 1943. In 1940 he participated in the formation of the Hodo Gijutsu Kenkyukai. He was appointed professor of the Design Department of Tama Art School (now Tama Art University) in 1947, a position he held until 1967. In 1948 he signed a contract with the Division of Advertising Culture for Shiseido. He helped set up the Japan Advertising Artists Club in 1951, and became its committee chairperson. In 1952 he was a founding member of Tokyo Ad. Art Directors' Club (now the Tokyo ADC). His first solo exhibition was held in 1953, the same year that "Souga-Shu by Ayao Yamana" (The Collected Works of Illustrations for Magazines and Advertisements by Ayao Yamana.) was published. In 1955 he was awarded the first Mainichi Newspaper Industrial Design Prize. He was appointed a special advisor to Shiseido in 1959. He became the first principal of Nihon Designers Gakuin in 1965, a position he held until 1972. from 1966 until 1969 he headed the Advertising Creation room of Shiseido.

Born in Osaka. In 1936, graduated from Osaka City Kogei High School (Design Course). After stints working in the advertising department of Mitsukoshi and Kintetsu department stores, went freelance in 1952. His main awards include the Osaka Arts Prize in 1954; the 1st Mainichi Industrial Design Award (today's Mainichi Design Award) om 1955; also became a member of AGI: participated in "Graphic'55" exhibition. In 1960, he served as a panelist at the World Industrial Design Conference and in 1970, participated in the basic color planning for the World Expo in Osaka. In 1981, he received the 12th Kodansha Culture Award in Publishing, in 1982, was awarded a Medal with a Purple Ribbon by the Japanese Government and in 1984, received the 5th Yamana Prize. In 1988, was awarded the Fourth Order of the Rising Sun Medal by the Japanese Government. In 1996, was inducted into the Tokyo ADC Hall of Fame. His works are in the permanent collections in many museums around the world. His main publications include "The World of Yoshio Hayakawa," the collection of essays, "Feeling to Pass the Time," and a collection of dialogues, "In Between Emptiness and Substance."

Born in Osaka, he graduated from Tama Art University in 1959 and started working for Light publicity where he handled advertising for Toyo Rayon and Canon Camera among others. He started freelancing in 1968 and became art editor for "Hanashi no Tokushu" in 1965. He did the covers from "Shukan Sankei" between 1968-73 and for "Shukan Bunshun" from 1977. He won the Bunshun Comics Award, the Kodansha Publishing Cultural Book Design Award and the Japan Non-Fiction Award. He directed "Mahjong Meanderings" in 1984 and "Ruby―The Elusive Thief" in 1988.

In 1959 joined Light Publicity after graduating from Tama Art University, and began working independently from 1968. Participated in "Hanashi no Tokushu" magazine as art director. From 1968, in as series that ran for more than 4 years, began drawing caricature covers for "Sakei Weekly." From 1977 to present, of "Weekly Bunshun." Major awards include1974, Kodansha Publication Culture Award (book design), 1997, Mainichi Design Prize. Authored more than 100 published works. Those concerned with design and illustration include, "Design Streetmap," "People," "Poster Land," "Makoto Wada Department Store," "Book Designed by Makoto Wada," "Bookbinding Story," "Caricature Story," and "Time Travel." Also directs movies.

After Calpis Foods and the Japan Design Center, he began to freelance, he has won the Japan Advertising Artists Club Special Mention and Members Awards, the Tokyo Illustrations Club Award, the Kodansha Publishing Cultural Illustration Award, the Sanrio Art Award, and the Red Bird Illustration Award. Born in Hyogo Prefecture. Holds a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (New York) in 1972. Subsequent participation in the biennales of Paris, Venice, Sao Paulo, and Bangladesh place Yokoo on the world stage. His many foreign exhibitions, such as solo exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain (Paris), bring Yokoo international acclaim. The Yokoo Tadanori Museum of Contemporary Art is established in Kobe in 2012. The Teshima Yokoo House is established on Teshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture in 2013. Awarded the 27th Praemium Imperiale in 2015. Yokoo’s works are in the collections of major art museums in Japan and abroad, and solo exhibitions are scheduled in coming years at art museums around the world.

松江市生まれ、東京芸術大学油画科卒業。西武百貨店宣伝部デザインルームを経て、フリーランスのイラストレーターとして、劇場、映画館、ミュージアム、レストラン、そしてアパレル店舗を融合したPARCOの広告制作に参加。1972年よりエアブラシを用いた女性像を描き、一躍時代を象徴するアーティストとなる。近年、山口の作品は、2018年Nottingham Contemporary（イギリス）「The House of Fame」、2017年Centre Pompidou-Metz（フランス）「Japanorama. A new vision on art since 1970」、2016年PARCO MUSEUM個展「Hyper! HARUMI GALS!!」（東京）といった展覧会で国内外の美術館でも発表されている。 パブリックコレクションとして、Museum of Modern Art（ニューヨーク）、CCGA現代グラフィックアートセンター（福島）などに作品を収蔵。

Born in Shimane Prefecture, she graduated from Tokyo Art University in oil painting and freelanced from 1968. Born in Matsue in Shimane Prefecture, Japan, Yamaguchi graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in oil painting. After working in the publicity department of Seibu Department Stores, she began her career as a freelance illustrator. In this capacity she participated in numerous advertising projects for PARCO, a leading chain of shopping complexes that encompass not only department stores but also a theater, cinema, a museum, restaurants, and clothing stores. Leading the chain are the PARCO stores opened in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district in 1969 and in the Shibuya area in 1973. Since 1972, Yamaguchi has depicted female figures using airbrush techniques, instantly establishing herself as an illustrator who symbolizes the era. In recent years, Yamaguchi’s works have been presented in exhibitions at museums in Japan and abroad, including “Japanorama. A new vision on art since 1970” at Centre Pompidou-Metz (France, 2017), “The House of Fame” at Nottingham Contemporary (UK, 2018), and “Hyper! HARUMI GALS!!” at PARCO MUSEUM (Tokyo, 2016). Her works are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA: New York), the Center for Contemporary Graphic Art (CCGA: Fukushima, Japan), etc.
