明治45年（1912年）に誕生した、DNPのオリジナル書体「秀英体」の生誕100年を記念する展覧会。築地体とならび「明朝活字の二大潮流」として、その後の和文書体に大きな影響を与えてきた秀英体の魅力を伝える。「四季」をテーマに制作された新作ポスターをdddギャラリーとモリサワの2会場で展示。また活版印刷からデジタル活用まで、時代とともに大きく変化してきた秀英体の100年を、書籍、ポスター、広告等、様々な作品を通して展望。秀英体の潔い骨格にひそむ魅力を探るとともに、次なる100年へ向けた新たなデジタルコミュニケーションへの展開を宣言する機会となった。

This exhibition was mounted to celebrate the 100th year since the creation of Shueitai, an original printing type launched by DNP in 1912 and still in wide use. To convey Shueitai’s ageless appeal, two venues - ddd gallery and Morisawa Head Office - were devoted  new poster works by 24 graphic designers and one design team on the theme of "the four seasons." Also, through a broad array of works including books, posters and advertising, an overview of Shueitai's 100 years amidst the dynamic changes from the days of movable type to its current applications in the digital eta was demonstrated. The exhibition not only probed the enduring appeal of the cleanly structured Shueitai typeface but also was a timely opportunity to proclaim its development as anew digital communication format for the next 100 years.

神奈川県生まれ。神奈川工業高校工芸図案科卒業。桑沢デザイン研究所卒業。1964年ライトパブリシティ入社。1975年浅葉克己デザイン室設立。1990年地球に現存する幻の象形文字・ナシ族トンパ文字を探して、中国雲南省麗江を訪ね、gggで新作の個展を開く。近年の代表作として、セゾングループ「お手本は自然界」、西武百貨店「おいしい生活」、サントリーオールド「飲む時はただの人」、日清食品「シュワルツェネッガー食べる」、武田薬品「いやはや鳥人だ」などの広告活動がある。1964年日宣美特選、1974・79・89年ADC会員賞、1980年毎日デザイン賞、1989年日本宣伝賞・山名賞、1990年ADC会員賞・原弘賞など受賞多数。東京ADC会員。JAGDA会員。東京TDC会長。

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, he graduated from the Industrial Art Design Department of Kanagawa Kogyo High School as well as from the Kuwasawa Design Institute. He joined Light Publicity in 1964 ad established the Katsumi Asaba Design Room in 1975. He went to Yunnan, China, in 1990 to fine the illusive Nakhi pictographic script and had a one-man show of new works at the ggg. Recent works in advertising include "Nature is the Model" for the Saison Group, "A Delicious Life" for Seibu Department Store, "Highway of Dreams" for Suntory Old, "A Regular Guy when Drinking" for Suntory White and "Schwarzenegger Eats " for Nissin Foods among others. His many awards include JAAC Honorable Mention in 1985, the ADC Members Award in 1974, 1979 and 1989, the Mainichi Design Award in 1980, the Japan Advertising Prize, Yamana Award in 1989 and the ADC Members Hiromu Hara Award in 1990. He is a member of Tokyo ADC and JAGDA and Chairman of Tokyo TDC.

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1940. After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School and working at Keinosuke Sato Typography Studio and Light Publicity, he founded Katsumi Asaba Design Studio in 1975. Many of his creations as an art director have made a lasting mark in the history of Japanese advertising design. Representative works include landmark ads for Seibu Department Stores, Suntory and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, and package design for Kirin tea. Asaba is an expert on Dongba, an ancient pictorial script still used in some areas of China. He has received numerous awards, including the Japan Advertising Artists Club Special Prize, Tokyo Type Directors Club Award, Mainichi Design Prize, Japan Advertising Awards Yamana Prize, Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Tokyo Art Directors Club Grand Prix, and two decorations from the Japanese Government: a Medal with Purple Ribbon; and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. Asaba is chairman of the Tokyo Type Directors Club, a committee member of the Tokyo Art Directors Club, president of JAGDA (Japan Graphic Designers Association), Japan representative in the Alliance Graphique Internationale, director of Kuwasawa Design School, and visiting professor at Tokyo Zokei University and Kyoto Seika University. He has a 6th level ranking in table tennis.

Born in Miyazaki Prefecture. In 1978 he established Beans. He has performed art direction and creative advertising for numerous publications, music, television, etc., for Parco, Suntory, Comme de Garçons, and The Asahi Simbun. Among the many prizes he has won to date are the Tokyo ADC Grand Prize, Tokyo TDC Members Award and the Mainichi Advertising Award. He is a member of Tokyo ADC, Tokyo TDC and JAGDA.

He established his own company, Beans Co., Ltd., in 1978. Through the years he has forged a prominent career as a graphic designer and art director, the latter area encompassing the realms of advertising, music, publishing, and TV. Today, with innovative creations integrating photography and typography, his design work continues to span across multiple genres. Inoue's major awards received to date include the Tokyo ADC Grand Prize, Tokyo TDC Grand Prize, JAAC Yamana Prize and Mainichi Design Award. His major publications are "ggg Books-64 Tsuguya Inoue," "Inoue Tsuguya Graphic Works 1981-2007" (Little More), and "Inoue Tsuguya Graphics: Talking the Dragon" (Little More).

Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido Prefecture, Kasai Kaoru joined SUN-AD Company Limited in 1973 after stints working at Bunka Printing Co., Ltd. and Ohtani Design. He currently serves as advisor at SUN-AD Company Limited. His creative activities span a wide range, including advertising and art direction for Suntory Oolong Tea, United Arrows, Toraya Confectionery, and TORAYA CAFÉ, as well as corporate identity and signage, graphics and title design for films and theaters, and book design. Major awards received include the Tokyo ADC Grand Prix, Hiromu Hara Memorial Prize, Mainichi Design Award, and the Yusaku Kamekura Design Award. His publications include KASAI Kaoru 1968 (Art Design Publishing).

Born in Tokyo. After graduating in art from Tokyo Kyoiku University, he spent a year researching design and photography. He established the Katsui Design Office in 1961 after working for Ajinomoto Co., Ltd. His awards include the Japan Advertising Artists Club Award, the International Poster Biennale Warsaw Gold Medal, the Bruno International Graphic Design Biennale Silver Medal and Grand Prize, as well as the 1992 Recommended Artists Award from the Ministry of Education, in 1992. He is a member of the Tokyo ADC, JAGDA, TDS and the AGI. Books: "Graphic Design in the World," "Modern Design Dictionary," and "Modern Graphic Design System CG Edition" among others.

Born in Tokyo. After graduation from Tokyo University of Education, he initially worked for Ajinomoto until he established his own design office in 1961. His field is visual design, primarily focused on visually infusing information into graphic design. His range of activities is remarkably wide, including art direction of numerous expositions, design education, and serving as a judge at international competitions. He is a member of Tokyo ADC and AGI and serves as a director of JAGDA. He is Professor Emeritus at Musashino Art University.

Born in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture. He graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (now, Tokyo University of the Arts) with a degree in Visual Design. After initially working in the advertising department of Shiseido, he went freelance in 1971. He won a Tokyo ADC Award in 1985, a Mainichi Design Award in 1991, and the Education Minister’s Art Encouragement Prize for young artists in 1997. He has also won numerous awards at international poster competitions, including at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). His works are part of permanent collections at many art museums both in Japan and abroad. Mr. Sato is presently a member of JAGDA, AGI, Japan Design Committee, Tokyo ADC and Tokyo TDC. He is best known for his unique style of expression acclaimed for its Oriental touch, but in recent years he has been working with other modes of free expression. He is a professor at Tama Art University.

Born in Tokyo. Through his unique ways of creating images of the conscious realm, he continues to have a profound influence on many creative artist. Hi is also known as a leading expert in Asian iconography and has been involved in the planning and organization of numerous exhibitions and books introducing Asian cultures. Major awards include the Japan Advertising Artist Club (JAAC) Award, the Arts Encouragement Prize for New Artists of the Agency for cultural Affairs, and the Mainichi Arts Award. In 1997, he received the Medal with the purple Ribbon given by the Japanese Government for distinguished contributions to the arts and academia. He has also planned a long list of publications in his native language. Professor Emeritus at Kobe Design University.

Born in Tokyo in 1932, he graduated in 1955 from Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in architecture. He was a guest professor at Design College of Ulm, West Germany between 1964 and 1967, and a professor of visual information and design at Kobe Design University from 1989 to 2002. Since April 2010 he has served as Director of the Research Institute of Asian Design, Kobe Design University. He is a professor Emeritus of Kobe Design University.

Shinnosuke Sugisaki was born in Nara Prefecture. In 1975, he graduated the Osaka University of Arts, and  established his own design office in 1986. His designs as the construction of information and the design of impressions, and he aims for the realization of lucid, high-quality communication. 

愛知県生まれ。よくわからないまま、愛知県立旭丘高校美術部卒業。多摩美術大学グラフィックデザイン科在学中に工作舎で働き始め、そのまま大学中退。工作舎、フォーセールでのアートディレクターを経て、1988年よりフリー。1990年事務所名がないことに気づき、「cozfish（コズフィッシュ）」と命名。cozfish主宰。気がつくと1,000冊以上のブックデザインを手がけており、現在は、すべての印刷されたものに対する並はずれた「うっとりパワー」をもって、幅広く活躍中。

コズフィッシュ代表。1959年愛知県生まれ。多摩美術大学に入学するが、杉浦康平に憧れ、在学中の1981年から工作舎でアルバイトを始め、大学中退。在学中は漫画研究会に所属、先輩にしりあがり寿、喜国雅彦がいた。1987年工作舎退社。秋元康が設立した株式会社フォーセールでアートディレクターを務め、1988年独立。1990年コズフィッシュ設立。人文書、小説、漫画などの書籍の装丁やデザインを幅広く手がける。吉田戦車の漫画本をはじめとして、意図的な乱丁や斜めの断裁など、装丁の常識を覆すデザインで注目を集める。近年、「スヌーピー展」「エヴァンゲリオン展」「ゲゲゲ展」「ゴーゴーミッフィー展」など、展覧会のグラフィック、アートディレクションを手がけることも多く、展覧会グッズでは独特の感性を爆発させたユニークな商品を開発している。

Born in Aichi Prefecture. Graduated from the Art Department of Aichi Asahigaoka Prefectural high School, albeit unmotivated. While he was in the Graphic Design Department of Tama Art University, he started to work at the Kosakusha publishing house and dropped out of university. after he worked as an art director for Kosakusha and For Sale, he went freelance in 1988. Realizing in 1990 that his studio did not have a name, he named it "cozfish." By then he had dealt with more than a thousand book designs. At present, capitalizing on his "extraordinary power to enchant" every kind of printed matter, he is active across a broad range of projects.

Director of cozfish. Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1959. While a student at Tama Art University, Sobue started working part-time at Kousakusha in 1981, having been inspired by Kohei Sugiura; he subsequently left the university. As a student he was a member of the university manga club along with older students Kotobuki Shiriagari and Masahiko Kikuni. Sobue left Kousakusha in 1987. After working as art director at For Sale Corporation, which was founded by Yasushi Akimoto, he became independent in 1988 and founded cozfish in 1990. He has created book bindings and designs in various genres including the humanities, novels and manga. He has received attention for unconventional book designs--a notable example being a manga book by Sensha Yoshida--with elements such as intentionally out-of-order pages and diagonal cutting. In recent years Sobue has also worked on the graphics and art direction of numerous exhibitions, including "Snoopy/Ever and Never: the art of Peanuts," "Evangelion Exhibition," "GeGeGe no Kitaro," and "Go Go Miffy/55 Years with Miffy"; and created unique exhibition-related goods bursting with distinctive flair.

Born in Hiroshima Prefecture. He completed the Master's course in Fine Arts at Tokyo National Fine Arts and Music in 1994. Born in Osaka, he left the sculpture department of the Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music in 1951 and helped establish the Nippon Design Center in 1960. His many awards include the Japan Advertising Artists Club Award, the Tokyo ADC Members Grand Prize and the Mainichi Art Award. He received the 1989 Purple Ribbon Medal and has had one man shows at the Toyama Museum of Modern Art, the Poster Annex of the Warsaw Museum of Modern Art and the Ikeda Museum of 20th Century Art. His works are in the collections of the New York Museum of Modern Art and the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art. He is currently a representative director of the Nippon Design Center and a chairman of JAGDA, and a member of AGI and Tokyo ADC. Books: "World of Kazumasa Nagai" and "Kazumasa Nagai Design Life."

Born in Osaka, Mr Nagai attended Tokyo National University of Fine Arts an Music until withdrawing in 1951. In 1960 he participated in the founding of Nippon Design Center, where he currently serves as Senior Executive Advisor. He has created numerous symbols through the years, including for the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics, Expo'75 in Okinawa and Asahi Breweries. He has also designed a broad range of posters for corporate advertising, musical performances, exhibitions, etc., and overseas. Mr. Nagai is a member of Tokyo ADC and AGI.

Born in Osaka, Kazumasa Nagai attended Tokyo National University of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts), where he studied Sculpture until withdrawing in 1951. In 1960, he participated in the founding of the Nippon Design Center, together with Ikko Tanaka and other up-and-coming young designers. In 1975 Mr. Nagai became that organization’s president, and he currently serves as its chief executive advisor. He also serves as special advisor to JAGDA.
During his long career he has created logomarks, CI and posters for numerous clients including: the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics, Okinawa Expo ’75, Ibaraki and Niigata prefectures, Japan Agricultural Cooperatives (JA), Asahi Breweries, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, etc. In the late 1980s Mr. Nagai launched his “LIFE” series featuring flora and fauna motifs, and in 2003 his creative endeavors expanded to copperplate printmaking.
He has won a host of awards, both global and domestic: Tokyo ADC Grand Prize, Yusaku Kamekura Design Award, Mainichi Design Award, Mainichi Art Award, Himeji Cultural Arts Grand Prize, Warsaw International Poster Biennale Gold Prize, and International Biennial of Graphic Design Brno Grand Prize. From the Japanese Government he has received the prestigious Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts, Medal with Purple Ribbon, and Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.
Mr. Nagai’s works are included in the permanent collections of more than 20 museums worldwide, including the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design, Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), and Metropolitan Museum of Art.

「ラフォーレ原宿」の年間広告グラフィックをはじめ、坂本龍一氏のYCAM10周年記念祭ライブイベントのポスターデザイン、「Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week TOKYO」のグラフィックデザイン、アーティスト加茂克也氏『100headpiece』の装丁（GASBOOK）、「YVAN VALENTIN」のパッケージデザイン、HAND MADE ART STORE 「BONDO」のブランディング等、グラフィックデザインを基軸に、ブランディング、CI、VI、ファッションデザイン、プロダクトデザイン、広告などを手がける傍ら、パーソナルワークとして現代美術家の宮島達男氏らと「PEACE SHADOW PROJECT」を行う。

Graduated from Musashino Art University in 2003 with a concentration in Visual Communication Design. Her primary focus is graphic design, but she is also actively involved in branding, CI, VI, fashion design, product design, advertising, etc. Her especially notable works to date include graphics for Laforet Harajuku’s annual advertising campaign, poster design for Ryuichi Sakamoto’s live event in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM), graphic design for “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week TOKYO,” book design for artist Katsuya Kamo’s 100 headpieces (GASBOOK), package design for Yvan Valentin and branding for the hand-made art store BONDO. On a private basis she is involved in the Peace Shadow Project together with contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima et al.

 Born in Tokyo. In 1956, after graduating from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music (now called Tokyo University of the Arts), where he majored in Design, he joined the advertising department at Shiseido. Later he moved to Deska until 1961, when he established Nakajo Design Office. Nakajo's major work in a career now spanning more than four decades includes: art direction and design for Hanatsubaki, Shiseido's cultural magazine, and for The Ginza / Tactics Design; logo and packaging design for Shiseido Parlour; logo and signage planning for the Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building; corporate identity (CI) planning for Matsuya Ginza, Wacoal Spiral, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and Hosomi Museum; illustrations for "Nihongo de Asobo" (Let's Play in Japanese), a children's program on NHK; and cover illustrations for Kurashi no Techo magazine. Among his numerous awards received to date are the Tokyo Art Directors Club Members Award Grand Prize, the Tokyo Type Directors Club Members'  Gold Prize, the Yusaku Kamekura Design Award, the Mainichi Design Award, the Japan Advertising Awards' Yamana Prize, and – from the Japanese Government – a Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon and The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. Nakajo is a member of the Tokyo Art Directors Club, Japan Graphic Designers Association and Tokyo Illustrators Society, and he currently serves as Senior Vice President of the Tokyo Type Directors Club. He is also a visiting professor at Joshibi University of Art and Design.

His main works include the planning and art direction for Play Station game software including "I.Q," "I.Q Final," and English vocabulary learning software "Poketan," art direction for 1999 "Kokoku Hihyo (advertisement comment magazine)," the "Ponchiki" toy, a mobile phone internet site "Ugoku ID (Moving ID)," and graphic design for Maywa Denki.

武蔵野美術大学教授。2002年より、無印良品のアートディレクションを担当。「もの」ではなく「こと」のデザインを志向している。「RE-DESIGN」「HAPTIC]「SENSEWARE」など既存の価値観を更新するキーワードを擁する展覧会を制作し、世界に巡回。また、長野オリンピックの開・閉会式プログラムや、愛知万博のプロモーションでは、深く日本文化に根ざしたデザインを展開した。一連のデザイン活動によって日本文化デザイン賞ほか受賞多数。著書多数。

He is a professor at Musashino Art University, and prolific writer. Since 2002 he has served as art director for MUJI. He aspires to designing "states" rather than "things." Among his creations are exhibitions - which have toured worldwide - embracing key words that overturn pre-exciting valued: for example, "RE-DESIGN," "HAPTIC" and "SENSEWARE." Meanwhile, for his design of the programs for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and his promotional campaign for AICHI EXPO 2005, he developed designs deeply rooted in Japanese culture. For his design activities he has garnered numerous awards, including the Japan Inter-Design Forum Award.

Born in Hyogo Prefecture. Established Hirano Studio in 1997, then in 2005 together with Aoshi Kudo she founded Communication Design Laboratory (CDL). Her major works to date include: symbol design and visual identity planning for the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; total art direction for launching Shiseido's "qiora" cosmetics in the U.S. and NTT DoCoMo's "F702iD Shosa" mobile phone series; planning, configuration and venue design for the "Icons of the Times: 50 Years of Japanese Graphic Design" exhibition. 1938年生まれ。装丁家、グラフィックデザイナー。武蔵野美術学校デザイン科卒業。高島屋宣伝部を経てフリーとなる。64年から晶文社の装丁を手がける。また演劇集団黒テントの活動に長く携わる。73年「ワンダーランド」創刊。78年「水牛通信」「水牛楽団」参加。84年「講談社出版文化賞」ブックデザイン賞受賞。

父の赴任先京城（現：ソウル）に生まれる。1957年 武蔵野美術大学の前身、武蔵野美術学校に入学。在学中の1960年、当時グラフィックデザイナーにとっての登竜門的存在であった日宣美展（日本宣伝美術会）において『見る前に跳べ』（大江健三郎の小説）で特選を受賞。卒業後、高島屋宣伝部に入社、その後フリーのグラフィックデザイナーとなる。
1964年から1992年の30年弱にわたり晶文社の装丁を一手に担う。ひとりのデザイナーが一社の装丁を全て手掛けるのは稀有なことであり、当時のカウンター・カルチャーの旗手であった晶文社のスタイルを作り上げ、出版会に旋風を巻き起こした。装丁の仕事は他社にもひろがり、独特の「描き文字」、躍動するデザインの装丁は現在に至るまで7000冊におよぶ。
1960年代半ばから平野は晶文社の編集長でもあった畏友　津野海太郎とともに演劇活動に参加。六月劇場、劇団黒テントを中心に演劇ポスターやチラシをつくり、舞台装置も手がけた。
1973年 植草甚一編集雑誌『ワンダーランド』のアートディレクターとなり、新鮮な誌面づくりはいまだに伝説として語り継がれている。
1978年から高橋悠治らが始めたバンド「水牛楽団」、アジア民衆文化通信『水牛通信』の活動に加わり、演劇活動とは別の表現方法を獲得していく。これはいまでも平野甲賀の根底を流れている。
2005年から2013年、神楽坂上の岩戸町に小劇場「シアターイワト」をオープン。
2014年より香川県小豆島に移住。


Born in Keijo, Korea(now Seoul),where his father was posted on business.
1957: Entered Musashino Art School, forerunner to today's Musashino Art University. While still a student in 1960, Hirano was awarded a special prize for his work on Kenzaburo Oe's Leap Before You Look  by the Japan advertising Artists Club, then considered a gateway to success for graphic designers. After graduation, he joined Takashimaya Department Store's advertising department, and later went freelance as a graphic designer.
For nearly 30 years between 1964 and 1992, Hirano served as the solo cover designer for Shobunsha. Indeed, it is a rare feat for a single designer to handle all of a publisher's output. Shobunsha was the standard-bearer of the counterculture in those day's, and Hirano's unique style blew a breath of fresh air through the publishing establishment.
this led to work from other clients, and Hirano's distinctive "decorative text" and dynamic designs graced the covers of some 7,000 books.
In the mid-1960s, Hirano began participating in theater along with Kaitaro Tsuno, his esteemed friend and also an editor at Shobunsha.
Give his talents, he was drafted to make posters, flyers, and even stage decorations for troupes such as Rokugatsu Gekijo and the Black Tent Theatre.
1973: Hirano was appointed art director of "Wonderland" magazine, edited by Jinichi Uekusa, and his vibrant page designs become the stuff of legend.
1978: Hirano joins Suigyu Gakudan, a band formed by Yuji Takahashi et al, and joined the staff of "Suigyu Tsushin," a newsletter reporting on Asian popular culture, finding new outlets for his creativity. The influence of there activities can still be seen in Hirano's works today.
2005-2013: Hirano opened Theatre Iwato, a small theater in Iwato-cho in Tokyo's Kagurazaka district.
2014: Hirano relocated to Shodo Island in Kagawa Prefecture.

Born in Tokyo, he graduated in design course of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1964, and joined in the advertising division of Shiseido. In 1971 he founded Shin Matsunaga Design. His work centers on posters, CI designs and other graphic design, but his creative activities also cover a wide range including drawings and monuments. His works are in the permanent collections of 46 museums around the world. He received numerous awards, including the Mainichi Design Award and International Poster Biennale, Warsaw Gold Medal.

Born in Tokyo in 1940. After completing the design course at Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music (now, Tokyo University of the Arts) in 1964, he initially worked in the advertising division of Shiseido Co., Ltd. In 1971 he founded Shin Matsunaga Design Inc. Mr. Matsunaga’s creative activities center on graphic design, including posters, corporate identity (CI) planning and packaging, but also run a broad gamut from drawings and sculpture to monuments. His major works to date include: summer campaigns for Shiseido; a series of peace posters; total graphics for Sezon Museum of Art; CI planning for Benesse Corporation, Issey Miyake and The National Museum of Western Art; and package design for Scottie tissues, Can Chu-Hi beverage, Shiseido “uno” men’s cosmetics, and the French cigarette brand Gitanes (finishing 1st in an international competition).

Born in Kobe, he established the design studio Ken Miki & Associates in 1982. His comprehensive designing activities include the promotion of the IBM ThinkPad for IBM Japan, the corporate identity for Keikyu Department Store, Dowa Fire and Marine Insurance, the symbol for World Environment Day Tokyo, the sign plans for Keio University Shonan Fujisawa campus and promotion of Heiwa Paper. His many awards at home and abroad include the JAGDA Newcomer's Award, NY ADC Special Award, Tokyo TDC Member's Bronze Award, Japan Typography Annual Grand Prix. He is a member of JAGDA, Tokyo TDC, JTA and AGI.

Among the numerous prizes he has received at home and abroad to date are the JAGDA New Designer Award, Japan Typography Annual Grand Prix, Tokyo Type Directors Club Bronze Award, International Poster Triennial in Toyama Silver Prize, New York Art Directors’ Club Bronze Award, etc. In addition to “APPLE,” he has also published “Ken Miki Selected Works 1994-2002” (amus arts press). He is a member of JAGDA, Tokyo TDC and AGI and a professor at Osaka University of Arts.

スタッフ間の心構えを共通化し、自立性を高める様な内容のgraf内企画展示を行っていました。互いの思考プロセスを丁寧に見せるようなリサーチライティングな展覧会として。自主活動を行なっていた最中に、依頼を頂き展覧会としてやらせて頂いたのが、この「感じる箱」展が初めてだったかもしれない。 grafのプロダクトに「SPHELAR LANTERN」という太陽電池を使ったソーラーランタンがあります。「光ってなんやろ？」という根本的な議論から入ったこのプロダクトの開発のプロセスには膨大なデータが蓄積されていったんですが、ちょうどこのころにdddギャラリーでの展示のお話しをもらいました。「感じる箱」展のチームはこのときのメンバーが中心になっています。 grafでは、グラフィックをグラフィック、空間を空間と分けて捉えるわけじゃない。空間も平面の積層だと考えています。文字情報をうまく設計するというような話ではなく、アフォードをデザインするという考え方です。この展覧会がリサーチから始まるgrafや僕のロジックモデルをつくるきっかけになっているかもしれません。「見る」というより「聞く」展覧会。ポスターもそういった観点で選びました。

We used to plan and hold exhibitions within graf that would standardize mindset and cultivate independence between staff. This research exhibition carefully explored every member’s thought processes. It might have been the first time we were asked to do an exhibition with the Sensory Boxes since we started working independently. One of graf’s products is the Sphelar Lantern, a lantern powered by solar cells. We collected a huge amount of data in the process surrounding the development of this product, which started with the fundamental question, “what is light?”; and it was right around this time we were asked to do the exhibition. The team for the Sensory Boxes exhibition was made up of the same members. At graf, we don’t separate graphic and space design work into different teams. We see space as layered planes. I’m not talking about designing textual information to look good; I’m talking about designing to afford. It just may be that this exhibition was the start of the logic model I myself and we here at graf use; one that starts with research. This is an exhibition where you ‘listen’, more so than ‘look’. We chose to adopt that point of view for the poster, too.

秀親と塚田哲也の2人で1993年に大日本タイポ組合を結成。日本語やアルファベットなどの文字を解体し、組合せ、再構築することによって、新しい文字の概念を探る実験的タイポグラフィ集団。ロンドン、バルセロナ、東京での個展や世界各地での企画展に参加。2012年古堅まさひこと共に日本科学未来館にて「字作字演展」を開催。ヨコカクと共に新世界タイポ研究会『「横書き仮名」の開発』がTDC賞2013を受賞。2014年10月には「文字による文字のための文字のサイト」type.centerを立ち上げる。主著書に『TYPE CARD PLAY BOOK』（ACTAR）、『大日本字』（誠文堂新光社）。

Formed by Hidechika and Tetsuya Tsukada in 1993, Dainippon Type Organization is an experimental typography group that seeks new concepts in type design by disarticulating, combining and reconfiguring the existing written components of Japanese characters and kana, alphabet letters, etc. They have held their own exhibitions in London, Barcelona and Tokyo, and participated in group exhibitions worldwide. In 2012, together with Masahiko Furukata they mounted the exhibition “Design a Letter Yourself, with Algorithmic Thinking!” at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo. In 2013, they received a Tokyo Type Directors Club (TDC) Award for their research and development, in collaboration with Yokokaku (as the Shinsekai Type Study Group), of "New" kana written horizontally. In October 2014, they launched type.center, a website "of letters, by letters, and for letters." Their major publications are "TYPE CARD PLAY BOOK" (ACTAR) and "Dainipponji" (Seibundo Shinkosha).
