    He studied graphic arts at the Helsinki University of Industrial Arts. He worked for a Helsinki advertising company for two years after graduation. He has since been a freelance graphic designer specializing in illustrations and poster design. Currently, in addition to heading a graphic design studio, he is teaching at his alma mater. His many awards include 1990 Mexican Poster Biannale Gold Award.

    Born in Finland. Graduated in ´67 from the School of Industrial Arts in Helsinki. Founded his own studio in´87. Specialized in illustration and poster design. Taught graphic design at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki ´89 –´97 (Aalto University). Guest Professor at Tama Art University in Tokyo since ´04. Honorary Professor, Communication University of China. Kari Piippo has been a jury member in many national and international competitions of poster design e.g. in Toyama, Warsaw, Lahti, Brno and Mexico. Exhibitions, lectures and workshops around the world. Solo exhibitions e.g. in ddd Gallery in Japan, USA, Germany, Turkey, Hungary and Ukraine. His major Finnish awards include Pro Finlandia Medal, The State Industrial Arts Award and Graphic Artist of the Year. In Best Finnish Graphic Design competition Platinum Award and four Gold Awards, several Best Finnish Poster Prizes. International awards include e.g. Gold in Mexico International Poster Biennial ´90 and 2006, Icograda Excellence Award in Chaumont´90 and in Warsaw Poster Biennale 2010, Silver from Lahti IPB´91, 1st Prize in Rzeszow ITPB ´93, 1st Prize in Colorado CIIPE´99, Grand Prix Ecoplakat Triennial, Slovakia 2000 and Grand Prix of Trnava Poster Triennial 2012, Slovakia. Kari Piippo is a member of AGI.
