Profile
Born in Tokyo. Moved to the United States in 1980, and in 1981 entered Yale University School of Art, where he studied graphic design and typography under Paul Rand, Bradbury Thompson and Herbert Matter. Received a Master of Fine Arts degree from that institution in 1983. Among exhibitions at which he has shown works are: "New Japanese Graphics" (1991), "KIREI: Posters from Japan 1978-1993" (1993), and "Exhibition of Selected Works from the Toyama Poster Triennale" (1996). He has won prizes at the Lahti Poster Biennale, International Poster Triennale, Toyama, Warsaw Poster Biennale, Mexico Poster Biennale, etc. In 1990, he was awarded the Design Prize of the Association of American University Presses. In 1996, he received the MITI Minister's Prize at the 38th Japan Catalog and Poster Exhibition. Member of AGI. Professor in the Department of Vial Communication Design at Musashino Art University.
