ものごとの合理化や概念化、そして近年におけるコンピュータへの依存の拡大、これらによって引き起こされた人間力の低下に警鐘を鳴らす北川一成が、ギャラリーとしての空間全体を使って、来館者の身体に働きかけるインスタレーションを展開。大型キャンバス出力作品やプロジェクターにより壁面に投影された北川デザインによるマークやロゴが縦横無尽に動き回る。来館者の動きにも反応し、北川の創り出す独特の世界観が炸裂。

Kitagawa’s works are meant to sound alarms against our rationalization and conceptualization of everything around us, our growing dependency on computers in recent years, and the deterioration in human powers these trends are bringing about. For this exhibition, he utilized the entire gallery as an installation designed to have physical impact on visitors. Marks and logos of his design were projected onto the walls. The displays also reacted to the movements of visitors, allowing Kitagawa's unique worldview to burst forth for all to see and appreciate.

兵庫県加西市生まれ。筑波大学卒業。GRAPHヘッドデザイナー。『NEW BLOOD] （2001）で、建築・美術・デザイン・ファッションの今日を動かす20人の一人として紹介され、また『アイデア』に掲載された作品の圧倒的なクオリティが世界のデザイン界に波紋を呼び、英国D&AD賞とNY ADC賞の審査員に相次いで選出。AGI会員。フランス国立図書館「近年のデザインと印刷の優れた本」として作品永久保存。2008年ロンドンFRIEZEARTFAIR出展。JAGDA新人賞、東京TDC賞他受賞多数。

Born in Hyogo Prefecture. Graduated from University of Tsukuba. Head Designer of GRAPH. Kitagawa was cited in "New Blood" as one of 20 contemporary Japanese "movers and shakers" in the realms of art and design. His works featured in "Idea" grabbed the attention of designers worldwide, leading to his selection to serve on the juries of the D&AD and NY ADC. His works are in the permanent collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. In 2008, he exhibited at London's Frieze Art Fair. Recipient of numerous awards including JAGDA New Designer Award and Tokyo TDC Award. Member of AGI.

スタッフ間の心構えを共通化し、自立性を高める様な内容のgraf内企画展示を行っていました。互いの思考プロセスを丁寧に見せるようなリサーチライティングな展覧会として。自主活動を行なっていた最中に、依頼を頂き展覧会としてやらせて頂いたのが、この「感じる箱」展が初めてだったかもしれない。 grafのプロダクトに「SPHELAR LANTERN」という太陽電池を使ったソーラーランタンがあります。「光ってなんやろ？」という根本的な議論から入ったこのプロダクトの開発のプロセスには膨大なデータが蓄積されていったんですが、ちょうどこのころにdddギャラリーでの展示のお話しをもらいました。「感じる箱」展のチームはこのときのメンバーが中心になっています。 grafでは、グラフィックをグラフィック、空間を空間と分けて捉えるわけじゃない。空間も平面の積層だと考えています。文字情報をうまく設計するというような話ではなく、アフォードをデザインするという考え方です。この展覧会がリサーチから始まるgrafや僕のロジックモデルをつくるきっかけになっているかもしれません。「見る」というより「聞く」展覧会。ポスターもそういった観点で選びました。

We used to plan and hold exhibitions within graf that would standardize mindset and cultivate independence between staff. This research exhibition carefully explored every member’s thought processes. It might have been the first time we were asked to do an exhibition with the Sensory Boxes since we started working independently. One of graf’s products is the Sphelar Lantern, a lantern powered by solar cells. We collected a huge amount of data in the process surrounding the development of this product, which started with the fundamental question, “what is light?”; and it was right around this time we were asked to do the exhibition. The team for the Sensory Boxes exhibition was made up of the same members. At graf, we don’t separate graphic and space design work into different teams. We see space as layered planes. I’m not talking about designing textual information to look good; I’m talking about designing to afford. It just may be that this exhibition was the start of the logic model I myself and we here at graf use; one that starts with research. This is an exhibition where you ‘listen’, more so than ‘look’. We chose to adopt that point of view for the poster, too.
