アメリカ・オクラホマ生まれ。NYのスクール・オブ・ヴィジュアル・アーツに学び、5年間プッシュピン・スタジオの一員として活動。1963年自身のスタジオを開設。1959年『PLAYBOY』誌に作品が掲載されて以来『LIFE』『TIME』『Look』『Sport Illustrated』『Esquire』などの出版物にイラストレーションを提供、ADとしてグラフィックデザイナーとしても活動。世界各国で多くの展覧会を開催し、受賞も多数。1990年スクール・オブ・ヴィジュアル・アーツ名誉博士、1995年NY. ADCの名誉の殿堂入り、1996年創造的なマッキントッシュの活用でアップルマスターに任命される。

Born in Oklahoma, U.S.A., he studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and was a member of Push Pin Studios for 5 years. He opened is own studio in 1963. His work was in "PLAYBOY" in 1959 and his illustrations have been in many publications including "LIFE," "TIME," "Look," "Sports Illustrated," and "Esquire." He has been an art director and a graphic designer. He has many exhibitions in countries around the world and has many awards. He became an honorary professor of the School of Visual Arts in 1990. He entered the NY. ADC Hall if Fame in 1995 and was named "Applemaster" for his creative Mackintosh activities in 1996.

奈良県生まれ。京都市立美術専門学校卒業。1960年日本デザインセンター創立に参加。1963年田中一光デザイン室主宰。日宣美会員賞、毎日デザイン賞、芸術選奨文部大臣新人賞、ニューヨークADC金賞、東京ADC会員最高賞、毎日芸術賞等受賞。NY ADC殿堂入り、紫綬褒章受章。1973年よりセゾングループのアートディレクター。西武美術館、パリ広告美術館等世界各地で個展開催。現在東京ADC会長。JAGDA副会長。AGI会員。著書に『田中一光のデザイン』、『田中一光デザインの世界』、『デザインの前後左右』ほか。

Born in Nara Prefecture, he graduated from the Kyoto City College of Fine Arts. He joined in establishing the Nippon Design Center in 1960. He headed the Ikko Tanaka Design Studio in 1963. His awards include the Mainichi Industrial Design Award, the Recommended Artist's Award from the Ministry of Education, Japan, the ADC Gold Awards, the Tokyo ADC Awards of Excellence, and the Mainichi Art Award. He was accepted to the NY ADC Hall and has received the purple Ribbon Medal. He has been the art director of the Saison Group since 1973. He is currently the Tokyo ADC chairman, and an AGI member.
