Profile
Born in London, he graduated from Harvard University, the Institute of Design in Chicago and Yale University, School of Art and Architecture. He has gotten many awards from the Art Directors Club of New York, the Typo-Directors Club, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and the Society of Illustrators. The American Institute of Architects honored him with its Industrial Art Medal in 1967. The fifth Avenue Association gave him a special award in 1974 for his contribution to the visual environment of New York. In 1979 he received the Gold Medal of AIGA. In 1982 he was named to the New York ADC Hall of Fame. In 1985 he was received the Yale Arts Award Medal. He is a past president of AIGA. He was a member of both the Yale committee on Art and Architecture and Harvard University Board of Overseers Committee on Visual and Environmental Studies, a National Trustee of the Smithsonian Institute and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Design Conference in Aspen. He is currently vice president of AIGA and AGI member.
