日本の伝統芸術を継承しつつ、全く新しい現代デザインの創作を続けてきた作家の回顧展。1950年代から50年間にわたる多面的なデザイン活動を、ポスターとグラフィックアートに焦点をあて代表作140点により展望。4月に特種製紙総合技術研究所Pamへ巡回。

This exhibition was a retrospective of the works of the artist, who taking over Japanese tradition, created completely new contemporary designs. 140 of his representative works, focusing on his posters and graphic art created over five decades starting in the 1950s were shown. Toured Pam, Shizuoka in April.

奈良県生まれ。京都市立美術専門学校卒業。1960年日本デザインセンター創立に参加。1963年田中一光デザイン室主宰。日宣美会員賞、毎日デザイン賞、芸術選奨文部大臣新人賞、ニューヨークADC金賞、東京ADC会員最高賞、毎日芸術賞等受賞。NY ADC殿堂入り、紫綬褒章受章。1973年よりセゾングループのアートディレクター。西武美術館、パリ広告美術館等世界各地で個展開催。現在東京ADC会長。JAGDA副会長。AGI会員。著書に『田中一光のデザイン』、『田中一光デザインの世界』、『デザインの前後左右』ほか。

奈良県生まれ。1950年京都市立美術専門学校（現：京都芸大）卒業。鐘淵紡績、産経新聞等を経て、1960年日本デザインセンター創立に参加。1963年田中一光デザイン室主宰。日宣美会員賞、ワルシャワ国際ポスタービエンナーレ銀賞、毎日デザイン賞、NY ADC金賞、東京ＡＤＣ会員最高賞など受賞多数。紫綬褒章受章、文化功労者表彰。西武美術館、ミラノ市現代美術館、サンパウロ現代美術館などで個展開催。

Born in Nara Prefecture, he graduated from the Kyoto City College of Fine Arts. He joined in establishing the Nippon Design Center in 1960. He headed the Ikko Tanaka Design Studio in 1963. His awards include the Mainichi Industrial Design Award, the Recommended Artist's Award from the Ministry of Education, Japan, the ADC Gold Awards, the Tokyo ADC Awards of Excellence, and the Mainichi Art Award. He was accepted to the NY ADC Hall and has received the purple Ribbon Medal. He has been the art director of the Saison Group since 1973. He is currently the Tokyo ADC chairman, and an AGI member. Born in Tokyo, he graduated in design course of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1964, and joined in the advertising division of Shiseido. In 1971 he founded Shin Matsunaga Design. His work centers on posters, CI designs and other graphic design, but his creative activities also cover a wide range including drawings and monuments. His works are in the permanent collections of 46 museums around the world. He received numerous awards, including the Mainichi Design Award and International Poster Biennale, Warsaw Gold Medal.

Born in Tokyo in 1940. After completing the design course at Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music (now, Tokyo University of the Arts) in 1964, he initially worked in the advertising division of Shiseido Co., Ltd. In 1971 he founded Shin Matsunaga Design Inc. Mr. Matsunaga’s creative activities center on graphic design, including posters, corporate identity (CI) planning and packaging, but also run a broad gamut from drawings and sculpture to monuments. His major works to date include: summer campaigns for Shiseido; a series of peace posters; total graphics for Sezon Museum of Art; CI planning for Benesse Corporation, Issey Miyake and The National Museum of Western Art; and package design for Scottie tissues, Can Chu-Hi beverage, Shiseido “uno” men’s cosmetics, and the French cigarette brand Gitanes (finishing 1st in an international competition).
