The 2014 Tokyo Type Directors Club Exhibition introduced the results of an international competition organized by the Tokyo Type Directors Club (TDC) that brought together an array of today's most advanced works of typography. Award winners were selected from a pool of 2,958 open entries submitted starting in autumn 2013: 1,960 from within Japan and 998 from overseas. In all, approximately 100 works of typography were on display: not only the 11 award-winning works, but also works that reached the nomination stage as well as other outstanding entries. The show contained many works from all around the world that manifested hitherto unknown possibilities of typographic expression, or that piqued intellectual debate about design, or that were simply admired for their richly expressive achievements.
