「ブランディングとアートディレクター」をテーマに、DRAFTが今まで手がけてきたモスバーガー、ラコステ、キリンなど、企業との商品開発からかかわるブランディングや、立ち上げから13年経ったD-BROSにスポットをあてた。さらに、現在DRAFTに在籍する9名のアートディレクターそれぞれの個性ある仕事を、映像を通して紹介。宮田采配のもと「物事の本質に迫る」「社会とつながる」という共通のマインドを持つデザイン集団DRAFTに、今なにが起こっているのか、今まで明かされなかったDRAFT＝宮田識の魅力を解き明かす。

This exhibition, taking up the theme of "Branding and Art Director," put the spotlight on DRAFT's branding work, commencing with its participation in product development at various companies, including Mos Food Services, Lacoste and Kirin Brewery. It also focused on D-BROS and its work during its first 13 years, and used video presentations to introduce the unique work of nine directors currently in DRAFT's employ. The show shed light as never before on the appeal of DRAFT, i.e. Satoru Miyata, and on what DRAFT - a design group of like-minded art directors under Miyata's leadership - is up to today as it seeks to get to the core essence of things and to connect with society.

宮田識が日本デザインセンター退社後、1978年に株式会社宮田識デザイン事務所（現：株式会社ドラフト）を設立。モスバーガー、ラコステ、PRGR、キリン一番搾り、麒麟端麗＜生＞、日本鉱業、パナソニック電工、花王ソフィーナ、ワコール、世界のKitchenから、ブライトリングなどの広告、SPの企画デザインを中心に、商品開発、業態開発などの企画、プロデュースを手がける。1995年D-BROSをスタートさせ、プロダクトデザインの開発、販売を開始。

DRAFT traces back to 1978, when Satoru Miyata left Nippon Design Center to start his own design office. Today DRAFT handles planning and production duties relating to product and business format development, with focus on advertising and sales promotion planning and design. Clients include Mos food Services, Lacoste, PRGR, Kirin Brewery, Japan Energy, Panasonic, Kao, Wacoal and Breitling Japan. In 1995 DRAFT launched D-BROS engaging in product design development and marketing.

<p>グラフィックデザインの展覧会の主役と言えば、今も昔も変わらず紙のポスター。デザイン教育機関でも、未だポスターは中心的な課題のひとつです。しかし、現在の仕事において紙のポスターをデザインする機会は大幅に減ってしまいました。街の広告物の主役は、デジタルサイネージ（＝ムービングポスター）。このような状況のなか、展覧会で紙のポスターをどう扱うかは大きな課題でした。そもそも美術展における絵画の代替物のように扱われるポスターには違和感を持ち続けてきたので、これまで企画した展覧会でもいわゆるポスター展の見え方にはならないように注意してきました。しかし、私たちの生活の中心にインターネットが位置する今、あらためて過去のポスターを見ると、それらが持つ物質性や印刷加工の迫力に素直にワクワクさせられます。アナログレコードやカセットテープが再評価されるように、今や街で見る機会が少なくなった紙のポスターが持つ、画面では味わえない触覚的／視覚的テクスチャーを評価基準にしてセレクトしました。</p>

<p>Physical paper posters remain, to this day, a principal part of graphic design exhibitions. They also remain central to assignments handed out at design schools. In the design field however, there has been a substantial reduction in opportunities to design for paper posters. The streets are now full of digital signage (i.e. moving posters). One of the biggest challenges we face today is how to deal with paper posters in exhibitions. I still feel uncomfortable about posters being treated like substitutes for paintings in art exhibitions; that’s why I have always been careful that the exhibitions I organize don't end up appearing as poster exhibitions. Even with the internet fixed front and center in our modern lives, it’s honestly exciting looking back at old posters again; they each harbor a very impressive materiality and printing process. Society is rediscovering analogue records and cassette tapes—though we may have fewer chances to see them on the streets anymore, in selecting paper posters I thought we could rediscover the tactile and visual textures they hold, which cannot be felt in digital images.</p>
