デザイナー、ライター、ミュージシャン、ビデオグラファーなど多くの顔を持ち、グランブルック・アカデミー・オブ・アートのグラフィック学科長を務めるなど、幅広い分野で活躍し、39歳の若さで惜しくも他界したマケラの作品の数々を紹介。

Many of the works of Makela, the man with the many faces of a designer, writer, musician and videographer whose wide range of activities also included heading the graphics department at Cranbrook Academy of Art and who unfortunately passed away very young at the age of 39, were shown.

アメリカ、ミネソタ州セントポール生まれ。ミネソタ大学他で学位取得。1990年デジタルタイポグラフィの幕開けを象徴する『デッドヒストリー』を発表。マイケル・ジャクソンの『ScreaM』などの音楽ビデオやタイポグラフィを手がける。1998年現代の映像、デザイン、写真の動向を記録した『WHEREISHERE』出版。映画『ゲーム』のオープニングタイトルの動画で、1998年ID年間デザインレビュー賞受賞。音楽活動も活発でCD2枚を制作。スタジオWPBC設立。クランブルック・アカデミー・オブ・アートのグラフィックデザイン学科長も務めた。

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, he receiver a degree from the University of Minnesota among others. In 1990,  he published "Dead History," which symbolizes the drawing of digital typography. He handled the typography for music videos including Michael Jackson's "ScreaM." In 1998, he published "Where is Here" shoeing tre trends in contemporary film, design and photography. He receiver the ID Annual Design review Award in 1998 for the opening title of the animated film, "Game." His many music activities include two CDs. He established the studio, WPBC, and has headed the design department at Cranbook Academy of Art.

広島県生まれ。大阪芸術大学中退。1970年ロシア、ヨーロッパを経てシルクロードを歩く。髙島屋宣伝部を経て、1984年松井桂三デザイン室、92年ハンドレットデザインインク設立。日米グラフィックデザイン展銀賞、東京ADC賞ほか受賞多数。最近はグラフィックデザインを中心に広告、パッケージ、環境、映像、建築など様々なジャンルを手がける。「チャイナグラフィックデザイン'96」（中国）、「MATSUI=GRAPHIKDESIGN AUS JAPAN」（独）など海外で展覧会開催。著書に『3Dグラフィックス』（六耀社）、『平面設計士松井桂三』（中国青年出版社）がある。AGI、NY.ADC、東京ADC、東京TDC会員。JAGDA理事。

Born in Hiroshima, he left Osaka University of Arts. In 1970, he traveled through the Silk Road from Russia and Europe. After the advertising department of Takashimaya, he established the Keizo Matsui Design Office in 1984 and Hundred Design Inc. in 1992. His many awards include the Japan-America Graphic Design Exhibition Silver Award and the Tokyo ADC Award. Recently, he is primarily involved graphic design but also many genre such as packaging, the environment, film, and architecture. He has has exhibition abroad such as "China Graphic Design '96" (China) and "Matsui-Graphkdesign aus Japan" (Germany). His books include "3D Graphics" (Rikuyosha) and "Keizo Matsui: The Graphic Designer" '(Chugoku Seinen Publishing Co.). He is a member of AGI, NY.ADC, Tokyo ADC, Tokyo TDC and is a director of JAGDA.
