何の変哲もないイメージから、美しく、また奇怪でもある現実を創出する試み。それがニューヨークで活躍するジェームズ・ビクトルのデザインである。インパクトの強いグラフィック・アイデアと視覚的ウイット、そして大胆で攻撃的な形象。天井から吊り展示を中心に、ウイットとポエジーに溢れた作品の数々約50点を展示。

Trying to create the beautiful and the mysterious from ordinary images is the way James Victore, active in New York, designs. His works are strong creative ideas with impact, have visual wit and bold, aggressive shapes. About 50 works filled with wit and poesy were mainly hung from the ceiling.

作風を彷彿させるエスプリに満ちたメッセージの連続で、満員の会場を沸かせた。「もし私がデザイナーでなかったら、下手くそなコメディアンで生計をたてていただろう」。

The packed hall was stirred by his spirited message which so resembled his works. "If I had not been a designer I would have made a living as a bad comedian."

独学の、独立デザイナー。ポスター、書籍、パンフレット、さらに音楽作品やテレビ用のグラフィック制作にも携わっている。ブルノ・デザイン・ビエンナーレ最優秀賞、ニューヨーク・アートディレクターズ・クラブ金賞、メキシコ・ポスター・ビエンナーレ金賞、ショーモン・ポスター・フェスティバル・イコグラダ優秀賞、テレビアニメ・エミー賞など受賞多数。その作品は多くの美術館に常設展示されている。

He studied on his own and became an independent designer. He is involved in posters, books, pamphlets and even music and graphics for television. Awards include the highest award at the Bruno Design Biennale, the Gold at the New York Art Directors Club, the Gold at the Mexico Poster Biennale, the outstanding award at the Chaumont Poster Festival Icograda, and the Television Animation Emmy Award. His works are permanently displayed in many museums.

広島県生まれ。大阪芸術大学中退。1970年ロシア、ヨーロッパを経てシルクロードを歩く。髙島屋宣伝部を経て、1984年松井桂三デザイン室、92年ハンドレットデザインインク設立。日米グラフィックデザイン展銀賞、東京ADC賞ほか受賞多数。最近はグラフィックデザインを中心に広告、パッケージ、環境、映像、建築など様々なジャンルを手がける。「チャイナグラフィックデザイン'96」（中国）、「MATSUI=GRAPHIKDESIGN AUS JAPAN」（独）など海外で展覧会開催。著書に『3Dグラフィックス』（六耀社）、『平面設計士松井桂三』（中国青年出版社）がある。AGI、NY.ADC、東京ADC、東京TDC会員。JAGDA理事。

Born in Hiroshima, he left Osaka University of Arts. In 1970, he traveled through the Silk Road from Russia and Europe. After the advertising department of Takashimaya, he established the Keizo Matsui Design Office in 1984 and Hundred Design Inc. in 1992. His many awards include the Japan-America Graphic Design Exhibition Silver Award and the Tokyo ADC Award. Recently, he is primarily involved graphic design but also many genre such as packaging, the environment, film, and architecture. He has has exhibition abroad such as "China Graphic Design '96" (China) and "Matsui-Graphkdesign aus Japan" (Germany). His books include "3D Graphics" (Rikuyosha) and "Keizo Matsui: The Graphic Designer" '(Chugoku Seinen Publishing Co.). He is a member of AGI, NY.ADC, Tokyo ADC, Tokyo TDC and is a director of JAGDA.
